About

Andrew Crookston

I’ve spent the better part of two decades building software and the teams that build software. Lean operator. Strong on legacy modernisation, AI adoption, and platform consolidation. Currently running engineering at a Swedish healthtech preparing for IPO — 25+ people across engineering, data, DevOps, design, and QA, reporting directly to the CEO.

Before this: co-founded a profitable B2C startup in San Francisco, built features reaching 50M+ users at Spotify, worked on logistics and marketplace systems at Instacart, and held engineering roles across startups and scale-ups in Stockholm and San Francisco.

Outside the day role I’m building Pilot — an orchestration layer for AI coding agents — and writing about AI coding adoption and engineering leadership here on this site.

This is where I think out loud. Field notes on agentic coding, post-mortems on interesting failures, and the occasional Swedish-language piece when the story demands it. Slow writing on fast-moving things. The thesis behind the writing is the shortest route in.

I take on advisory work alongside the main role — engineering leadership transitions, AI adoption in legacy contexts, scaling through growth. If any of that maps to a problem you’re navigating, drop me a line.
